The Guild of Saint Olaf is dedicated to bringing history to life via a deep commitment to historical accuracy and performance. Each member has a character to portray, and that persona is carefully studied to ensure accuracy. Court etiquette of the appropriate period is strictly observed, as is appearance. The Guild Members do not wear costumes created for stage appearance. Rather, each Guild Member wears historically accurate garments, replicating as closely as possible the style, construction, and ornamentation of the Renaissance. Each member makes their own garb, or has their garb hand made for them. Costs can run upwards of $5,000 per outfit. This accuracy and attention to authenticity of detail is very important as the members, in their roles as Royal Courtiers, mingle with their audience. Many of the Guild Members have traced their ancestry back to royal families of Europe and take pride in their heritage. Many members can speak several languages, many are trained vocalists and musicians.

In such a situation, acting ability is under close scrutiny as well, for no one really knows what occasion will arise next, not even the Guild Members! Each performance is spontaneous, although some scenarios are planned. To stay in character without a script is a skill that has been honed by the Guild Members, to the delight of their audiences.
